Questions about where butterflies come from?   This may help:

We have to purchase our butterflies.  We buy them from several other countries.  The butterflies are shipped to us in the third stage,or "chrysallis" stage of their lives.  We have to care for the chrysallis until the caterpillar inside becomes a beautiful butterfly and emerges from it.  Once the butterfly emerges and can fly, we take it in to our garden and release it.  We have to do this several times a day all summer long.  We buy between 400 and 450 chrysallis every week beginning in April and ending in September. This requires being approved by the USDA and being regulated by the federal government.

There are butterfly "farms" in North and South America, as well as

Asia, Africa and Europe.
